Colorado county officials are warning property owners about a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming that a recipient’s property is scheduled to be sold for unpaid property taxes. These messages often appear to come from an individual identifying as “Robert with Property Tax Help” and may include personal property details in an attempt to appear legitimate.
These messages are a scam. Counties do not initiate property tax collections, sales, or foreclosure actions through text messages.
If you receive a text message like this—or any similar message—do not respond, do not click any links, and do not provide personal or financial information. Instead, residents are urged to contact their local County Treasurer’s Office directly to verify the status of their property taxes.
County officials continue to work with law enforcement to monitor and address fraudulent activity. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and to report suspected scams promptly.
For verified property tax information, always use official county websites or direct phone numbers for your local Treasurer’s Office.
