Coroner

The County Coroner is responsible for investigating deaths that occur within the county to determine the cause and manner of death, in accordance with state and federal laws. This role is essential to public health, public safety, and the legal process.

The County Coroner:

• Pronounces death and begins the official death investigation
• Determines the cause and manner of death
• Serves as a Certified Death Investigator
• Works closely with local, state, and national law enforcement agencies
• Follows all state and federal statutes and guidelines for death investigation and reporting
• Is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to deaths anywhere in the county

The Coroner’s Office plays a vital role in supporting families, assisting law enforcement, and ensuring that deaths are investigated accurately, professionally, and with respect for the law and the community.
